Volunteer Nurses

Have a passion for helping youth in care?

Looking to get out of the hospital or office and into nature this summer? As a volunteer camp nurse, you will be a member of our medical team (2-3 members). Our volunteer nurses are responsible for caring for ill or injured campers, sorting and dispensing medication (almost every camper comes with medication), responding to emergencies, maintaining accurate medical documentation and promoting health maintenance and accident prevention. Nursing volunteers stay onsite the entire week.

Our nursing team consists of one licensed RN and one to two medical assistants (typically nursing students and those working toward licensure).

  Nurse Requirements:

  • Minimum 21 years of age

  • Desire and ability to work with youth outdoors

  • Ability to work with others collaboratively and effectively

  • Patience, adaptability, flexibility and self-control

  • Enthusiasm and sense of humor

  • Safe, child-centered and professional

  • Have an active PA State RN License or LPN

Nurse and/or Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Comply with all Rooted Kinections medical standards and protocols.

  • Participate in counselor training and assist in facilitating medical training/protocol

  • Management of medication administration (experience in psychotropic medications)

  • Follow medical directives and pre-planned safety plans

  • Administer and manage all medical records during camp

  • Maintain incident/accident reports

  • Ensure security of all medications, supplies and records

Nursing volunteers have supervisory role over children at camp. Nursing staff are required to stay-onsite throughout the week and therefore, are required to complete a background check and Child Abuse Clearance Report and/or fingerprints. Visit our Background Check Policies to learn more.

Do You Have These Skills?

  • Pediatric or camp experience

  • Ability to manage health forms (paper or electronic)

  • Enjoy working with kids ages 8-18

  • Enthusiastic and committed to the safety and well-being of campers

  • Adaptable and comfortable interacting positively with other camp staff

  • Good communicator with other health care providers, campers, staff, and parents

  • Ability to make decisions and take initiative
